The first week of Camp NaNoWriMo April 2021 is in the books, and what a wild week it has been!
The first week of camp has had its ups and downs, but I am pretty pleased with where I am standing now.
The first day of April was a great one for me, starting off the month with 1,486 words! And even though it snowed where I lived, I ended up hunkering down and getting things done. I had a few days of travel where may numbers were not the greatest, and I had one day where I literally wrote a single word, but other than that, the work has been steady! (Also, I have had my Covid vaccine, and the family I visited are all vaccinated, so no worries on traveling!)
My story has really surprised me so far. If you’ve read any of my work, you know that I tend to write stories that are a bit on the short side. My rough draft for Tea Witch has been the only exception, coming in at 69k words before edits began. But this one? Man, this one is going to be an epic! And the best part is that I’d have this story planned as a trilogy... whew! 11 Rules is shaping up to be my magnum opus.
I am really enjoying the story so far. I kind of love Lailah, my main character, and I adore the personality that is coming through with her. This whole week, I have been immersed in her thoughts and feelings, and she is so different from every other character I’ve written. She is not meek like Sydney, but not a firebrand like Victoria. Lailah really feels like she has her head firmly on her shoulders, and I am enjoying that. It’s going to be fun when I introduce her love interest, who couldn’t be more of an opposite to her.
So, week one (and some change) are in the books and is am feeling great! Here’s to a wonderful rest of camp and a great rest to the month of April!
