It's been just a little over two months since To Love a Tea Witch dropped on Amazon and KindleUnlimited, and since then, I have been working on the second novel in the Thistlewood Witches series. It's all about Alexis Cohen, the strange, brooding, gothic coven member who has a deep obsession with demon worlds after a chance encounter in her teenage years.
I've done quite a bit of work on this story since we last talked about it. The first draft has been finished, put to bed, proofread for spelling and grammar errors, then took a trip to my editor. Its back in my hands now. I've done a bit of rewriting, and its been read by my alpha readers (My alphas are the BEST), and now I am taking my time with making adjustments and changing a few things in the line-editing phase.
So far, I am really loving how Alexis's story has played out. When we first met her in Tea Witch, she was a little strange, a little kooky, and WAY obsessed with her mission to reach the Underworld once more. Sydney was put off by her at first, but the more they got to know one another, the closer they grew until Sydney herself brewed Alexis a sleep potion to calm her mind and nerves.
In her story, Alexis has calmed quite a bit, though her obsessions still remain the same. She's a bold woman, with strong intentions and goals and she never wants to waiver from them. And when she meets her match in the form of a demon named Xal'aros, sparks fly all over the place! The novel ends up being a fish out of water story just as much as it is a love story!
Right now, I am right on time to meet my deadlines and have the book out on the Fall Equinox, or September 22nd. Once I finish with this round of line edits, the book will go back to my alphas, then to my betas. And if everything looks great (fingers crossed!), I will be looking for ARC readers! And then when the leaves start to turn, it will be time for Alexis to take center stage!
As August rolls along, I'll be doing more updating on Ko-Fi (link) about this story and other books that will be coming in the Thistlewood Witches series. So, for shorter, sweeter updates, make sure you follow me there.
And on the blog, I'll be posting another update when its time to reveal the new cover!
For now, make sure you are all caught up with To Love a Tea Witch and I will see you all next week!
By the way, my novella Frost and Flame is currently FREE on the Amazon store!
The sale runs through Sunday, August 8th, so grab it while you can!
It's July 17th and we are a little over 2 weeks into Camp Nano! July is over halfway over, and how am I doing?
I am slowly but surely catching up to where I need to be. I've had some really high highs, with one day ending with 2.7k+ words, and low lows, where I ended one day with a paltry 706 words for the day. But either way, I've kept on and ended up at 23,653!
Not too bad. I'm slowly chipping away at the deficit and I am hoping to be back on track to win Camp next week.
So, I guess you are wondering where my time went this week...
Well, when I wasn't writing, I was working on a new story that's hit Kindle Vella this week!
If you're new here, 11 Rules for Dating my Mortal Enemy has been a side project that I have been working on for a few months now. I originally intended for it to be a trilogy of magical novels, something outside of the world I am building in Thistlewood. But when I heard about Kindle Vella, the brand new program for serials, I figured that 11 Rules would be a GREAT starter story! I love serials and have always wanted to toy around with one, and now I have my chance.
You can find my story here.
New chapters/episodes will hit every Friday, but you can read the first three episodes for free right now!
Wanna know what 11 Rules is about?
The story is about a princess named Lailah who is from a magical town called Soland, a town that is always at odds with Veilside, its magical brethren to the south. When the good people of Soland hear about a coming eclipse, the Kings of both cities agree to a magical marriage between Lailah and the prince of Veilside, a young man named Mikhal. This marriage will solidify a peace treaty between the cities and usher in a new era of unity.
The only problem is... Lailah hated Mikhal! Loathes! Despises! He's not too fond of her, either, if he was to be honest.
The pair have to work together to make this bond work, or they risk all out war breaking out between their beloved towns.
So, while I've been lagging behind in Camp Nanowrimo, it was for a very good cause! I am excited about where Kindle Vella could take readers and authors, and with Lailah and Mikhal's journey just beginning, a whole new world awaits us all!
And now, we can get back to the writing!
With week 3 beginning, I am ready to set my nose to the grindstone and get this story back on track!
Have you heard of Kindle Vella?
Kindle Vella is a new program rolling out for e-readers through Amazon, featuring episodic chapters of stories which are available to read with tokens. Similar to Webtoon and Radish. Amazon made the announcement about the program back in April, sending the author world into a buzz about it.
And the more I thought about it, the more I realized I wanted to dip my toes into the Vella waters and see how it goes!
Honestly, I have always wanted to write an episodic series. I have a deep love for soap operas (blame my mother and her Days of Our Lives addiction), and I remember watching the wild, wacky Passions soap opera back in the early 2000’s. I honestly tried to never miss a show because the craziest things would happen if you looked away!
So, when I heard about Kindle Vella, my mind started turning with all sorts of ideas!
Now, as of this blog post, the program is still in beta and not yet available for readers, but writers can start uploading episodes, or chapters, of their works in progress. And I have started doing that with a side project novel called 11 Rules For Dating Your Mortal Enemy. When the program goes live, readers will be able to jump right into the enemies-to-lovers romance featuring magic, political intrigue, and two warring sister cities, with peace balancing on the shoulders of Lailah and Mikhal’s betrothal.
Once the program goes live, I’ll be posting ALL kinds of links to get you to the project!
And on my off time, I’ve been noodling an idea about a magical, wacky town filled with romance, drama, intrigue, sex, heat, betrayal... You know, a true soap opera! What a dream that would be to write a real soap opera, one episode at a time! And man, that sounds like so much FUN.
I think the Vella program is going to be interesting for authors and tons of fun for readers. I have my fingers crossed that Amazon will release it for readers soon, because I cannot wait for everyone to meet Lailah and Mikhal and watch their love story unfold, one episode at a time. And if you prefer to read the story in its entirety and not wait another week for a chapter, rest assured that once the story has concluded, I will release it as a proper ebook and paperback.
Come on, Vella! I’m ready for you!
If you've already bought and read To Love a Tea Witch, then you know about the little surprise waiting for you at the end of the book!
But if you haven't let me let you in on a little secret...
There's a bonus story in the back of the book!
That's right! I added in a short story featuring Caleb and Sydney, but told from Caleb's point of view. The story is called "The Perfect Date for a Tea Witch", and it is a free download for anyone who has picked up my novel!
What happens in this story, you ask?
Well, you see, Caleb and Sydney have been dating for a while now. And Caleb thinks that they should move to the next step. His apartment is awful lonely when she isn't there, and it would be his dream to wake up next to her smiling face every morning. So, he thinks up the most perfect date to take her on. It needs to be special! It needs to be surprising and loving, and Caleb knows that he's done something right when he enlists her friends to help.
But it seems like the date is cursed. Everything is going wrong! This isn't like what he had planned at all...
What will Sydney say to his question now?
To find this lovely short story, you need to look in the back of To Love a Tea Witch. There is a link that will take you to the free download.
I hope you all enjoy this lovely little story. It was a lot of fun to write, especially writing from Caleb's point of view. And the fun of continuing their story past the novel has given me some wonderful ideas for Sydney and Caleb in the future.
Remember, you can pick up my newest novel, To Love a Tea Witch, on Amazon! And you can read it for free through KindleUnlimited.
I am so excited, proud, and elated to say that my first novel, To Love a Tea Witch, is hitting Amazon on Tuesday, May 25th!
Four days! That’s four days away!
I almost cannot believe it, to tell you the truth. I’ve had the idea for Sydney’s story for ages, and I have been working on it for almost an entire year. This novel is the culmination of a year’s worth of work, and the very thought just shocks me. There were some days when I wanted to throw it all away and never write another word, but more often than not, I fell in love with Thistlewood and its people. Sydney, Mary, Alexis, and the rest are only a small part of this magical little place. And ever since I closed the book on Sydney, my mind had been zooming with different stories that I could weave.
But for now, let’s focus on Sydney Birch and her walk through life.
The novel starts out with our main character, Sydney. She’s young, looking for her path in life, but ready to give up everything to help her aging Great Aunt, a spry woman named Babs who has her own magical secrets. Sydney feels drawn to Thistlewood, the place where Babs lived and grew up, and our 22-year-old heroine quickly finds friends and a mystical, magical job. Flowers turn to her when she walks, and Sydney spends all of her free time growing a garden of magical plants and brewing teas and potions to help the people around her.
But everything changes when Caleb Kruse walks into her life. He’s tall, incredibly handsome, charms the socks off of her, and seems to love her as much as she loves him.
Life is perfect...
Until Caleb’s ex, a nasty woman with an eye for revenge and her own magical powers, comes back to take what’s hers. Now Sydney has to band together with the Thistlewood Witches to cleanse Caleb and free him of his ex’s wicked spell!
Man, this was such a fun story! I loved watching Sydney’s new friendships bloom, as well as see love unfold for her. And she changes through the story, becoming more confident and composed as life goes on for her. The story ends in a wonderful “happily ever after” and the steamy scenes were a BLAST to write!
I am just so, so glad that its debut is finally here!
If you’re reading this before May 25th, you can preorder To Love a Tea Witch on Amazon. If the story has already hit the world, make sure you grab it or read it for free through KindleUnlimited! Paperbacks are also available through Amazon as well, and I know that I’ll be ordering quite a few once everything goes live on Tuesday.
As for me, you will find me out on Tuesday celebrating! I’ll be heading to my local coffee shop for a bubble tea and a muffin, followed up by some takeout sushi! Then, it’s on to the next book...
For everyone who has stuck by me, read my starter novellas, beta read Tea Witch, offered advice and love, and for everyone who has encouraged me, I just want to say thank you. Thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart. I never would have gotten this far without love and support.
Until next time, readers! I hope you all enjoy the love story of Sydney Birch and Caleb Kruse!
Monday, May 3rd, was another big day for me!
My fourth novella, In the Realm of the Emerald Court hit Amazon and KindleUnlimited!
I really enjoyed writing this story. It's a hair shorter than the ones before it, but I feel like it's a great romantic tale from start to finish.
The story follows Holly Hodges, a woman in search of meaning in her life. Her jobs are dead end, school is over, and her friends all seem to be moving into the next season of life without her. And in her quest to find her next move, she goes on a hike...
Only to discover a magical circlet of toadstools! The mushrooms transport her to a strange new world, filled with plants and animals like she has never known before.
She meets Theodas, a well-respected hunter for the Emerald Court. Only Theodas is not exactly human... He looks human, except for the blue tint of his skin and hair and the point of his ears and nose. But he isn't... he is a Fae!
And Theodas knows that humans are hunted in his realm.
The Fae hunter gives Holly the only option he can: Become his mate until the full moon rises and she can return home, or be hunted by the most fierce pack in all the realm.
But when Holly ultimately chooses, will she even think of returning home?
I hope you give this novella a try. This is not something that I usually write, because I love writing about strong women witches with kick ass powers and determined minds. But I love the idea of a magical Fae world filled with a whole different culture and rhythm when compared to ours, and I am a sucker for a "fish out of water" story. Writing Holly and Theodas's love story was a nice break in the writing that I have been doing for almost a year, and I felt really renewed after finishing it.
You can find In the Realm of the Emerald Court on Amazon and free to read with a subscription to KindleUnlimited! And if you give it a read, make sure to head back and leave an honest review!
For the past little bit, I have been working extra hard on getting my next novella written, edited, and ready to hit Amazon. This third story has been my longest novella so far, clocking in at over 30,000 words! I joked to my husband that if I had written just a bit more, I could have made it into a full-on novel! What a crazy concept!
My third novella, called Frost and Flame: A Love Story, is currently up for preorder on Amazon and will go live on March 30th, 2021!
This story was so much fun to write! It features Victoria, a hot-headed, quick to action fire mage who is excited to complete the Trials, which is a series of tests that every acolyte must complete. However, things get complicated when she is unexpectantly paired up with Samuel, a quiet, reserved ice mage who seems like her opposite in every way.
And they hate each other.
Together, they must complete four trials to assemble the device to send them home, but tensions are quick to rise. And feelings that were long buried start bubbling up to the surface. They must learn to work together and trust one another, or return to the Arcane Institute with their Trials unfinished, forever shamed.

I know that I say this a lot, but I LOVED working on this story! I have actually been working on it for a few months. Between moving and illness and family-related stumbles, this story took a long time. But I got to do a lot of fun things this time, like creating monsters, challenges, riddles, and more for Samuel and Victoria to overcome. It's very much a story of change and growth, and the blossoming romance that grew with the characters made everything so much sweeter.
I really hope that you all end up loving this story! If you do, make sure to leave a review when you're done. And, if you want to read more of my work, check out The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Breaking the Lovers Curse, both available on Amazon and free to read with KindleUnlimited!
Just me, a paranormal romance author with big dreams and even bigger crushes!
