Now that I have plotted "To Love a Tea Witch" using the save the Cat method, it's time to plot it using another method.
Yes, I know, it seems a bit redundant to plot the same story twice, but bear with me here.
I like using the Save the Cat model because I love story beats. I want to ensure that no matter what, I am telling a proper story and hitting the beats that mean the most to me.
But I need to do something else, too.
I need to break my beats down by chapter.
I am the kind of writer who needs to know what is coming in the next chapter. I am 100% a plotter, and without a detailed map on where to turn next, I quickly get lost.
So, I have been taking my beats from Save the Cat and turning them into chapters! So far I am about a quarter of the way through the story, and it's been a blast to put this bad boy together. Seeing Sydney's story fully fleshed out as she tries to find her place inside a strange, magical town just makes me smile.
And my goodness, it makes me wish that October would pass by quicker!
With only a few more weeks until NaNoWriMo officially begins, my excitement seems to be bubbling over at this point! I am very much a tea kettle, just seconds away from singing. It's taking everything in me not to go ahead and jump in face-first into this story, but I am *somehow* able to hold off!
Next time we talk, I'll be preparing myself to take on the marathon of writing 50k words in a month!
In the meantime, make sure you are following me on Twitter!
It's not quite October, but I am definitely in the swing of Preptober!
If you're not familiar with the world of NaNoWriMo, just know that October is just as special as November. It's not just the time for pumpkin-flavored goodies and plenty of spooky treats, but it is also time to start prepping to write a novel in a month!
Prep... Tober... Get it?
I'm getting a jump start on prepping for my NaNoWriMo novel. I've been reading Save the Cat Writes a Novel for the past little bit, and the first part of my novel prep involves me planning out To Love A Tea Witch using this method. I've created a small spreadsheet for myself that breaks down each beat, with some extra tips, and I've left a space in the middle for all of my prep.
Want a sneak peek at what I've cooked up?
My apologies, but I really geek out for a good spreadsheet!
I am so excited to watch this novel start to take shape. Sydney's story is one that I have wanted to tell for a long time, and I want to make sure that I do her justice.
This is just the start of my prep for next month's NaNoWriMo! More is coming with the start of October, and November first will be THE day!
Just me, a paranormal romance author with big dreams and even bigger crushes!
